FRAUD RISK INTELLIGENCE

Your fraud system stops
at your customers.
Fraud doesn't.

Your analysts chase alerts that were never fraud, while the fraud that matters gets through. SurePay shows you what's behind the receiving account, from across hundreds of banks and payment providers, so you can finally tell the two apart.

The problem

One side of a payment is not enough to decide on.

Fraudsters use mule accounts: real accounts in real names, so the name check passes. Your fraud engine sees a trusted payer. Everything looks fine, because everything it can see is on your side of the payment. The scam changes every time, but the destination doesn't—the blind spot on the other side of your payments.

Intelligence your business can act on.

The SurePay network pulls signals through our Global API. Every payment initiation across national schemes produces a full view of the receiving account: who it is, what has changed, and how payers have responded to it in the past.

The measurable advantage of payment certainty.

Account Verification.

The name and account check that runs on every payment initiation, in production across national schemes. The match result is what sets the rest in motion, pulling the receiving account's context and its behaviour across the network.

Account Context

Enriched data about the receiving account is pulled, so your engine can weigh more than its own history. This functionality is live in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Ireland where it has cut false positives up to 50%.

Account Activity

Patterns across the network are revealed: an account newly seen, sudden activity after dormancy, or an unusual number of checks from different institutions.

Risk Score

A score with reason codes and a confidence level is determined, so your system can weigh it against its own data and make the call.

Keep your team focused on real fraud.

Around a million payments a day get a warning on our network, and roughly half stop right there. Those never reach a case queue. What does reach your team arrives within an instant, with a reliable score attached, so the work goes to the cases that need a human eye.

Give your customers a frictionless experience

Protect your customers from the burden of misplaced efforts and false red flags. Cutting false positives in half means real payments go through without a hold, and business keeps flowing.

Cut pay-back and investigation costs

The ROI speaks loudly when you see how much time, energy, and money is saved when you don’t have to investigate and reimburse the fraudulent payments that slipped through.

Stay compliant through regulatory changes

Prepare for PSD3 and PSR and evolving regulatory requirements with a transparent, auditable risk assessment trail.

"SurePay ensures that their system is robust–this builds the confidence of our clients and their customers given we have such a reliable supplier. It helps us maintain our regulatory responsibilities."

FAQs

Get the facts and get ready for upcoming European and UK fraud regulations.

FRI combines verified receiving-account information with behavioural patterns observed across the SurePay network. That includes the account's history and profile, how and where it is being checked, and changes in activity that set it apart from normal behaviour. A long, stable history counts in the account's favour, not just the warning signs.

Account Context already runs in live payment flows in the Netherlands. Account Activity and the FRI Risk Score are rolling out with banks in the Netherlands and Belgium, and French PSPs can report and check fraud-risk accounts through SurePay's access to FNC-RF. Talk to us about your market.

SurePay connects French PSPs to Banque de France's FNC-RF today. As European and national initiatives such as FRIDA and UK EDeX launch, SurePay is preparing to connect to them, so you can contribute and consume fraud intelligence through the connection you already have.

PSD3 and the Payment Services Regulation will raise the bar on fraud prevention across the EU, with stronger consumer protection, payment verification and information sharing, and more liability for PSPs whose controls fall short. That puts the receiving side of the payment firmly in scope. Fraud Risk Intelligence gives you that view, as part of your wider fraud and compliance framework.

FRIDA, the Fraud Information Distribution Arrangement, is the European Payments Council's initiative to set common rules for sharing account-to-account fraud information between PSPs. It is still in development. The best preparation is getting your fraud data, governance and legal basis for sharing in order now, and choosing a connection that will carry FRIDA intelligence when it goes live.
